That's really it.
My high standards revolve around the book, music, and TV industry. And I shall go on an explain them all since this could be taken the wrong way.

In the book industry, or writing industry if you will, has gotten worse ever since Stephanie Meyer published Twilight. Authors like Jane Erie (who I've never read, but plan to in the future), Jane Austin, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Terry Pratchett, Terry Brooks, and Brian Jaques have gotten over looked in the past few years. You know why? It's not because they're bad authors, it's because the taste of the public mainstream has taken a turn for the worst. Authors who have an ounce of writing talent to rub against their fingers, like Christopher Paolini and Dianna Wynne Jones (authors of the Inheritance Cycle and Howl's Moving Castle). These perfectly good authors get over looked by the mainstream because shit books like Twilight and Evermore have taken root. More experienced authors get slammed for being unfair because they offer their honest, well learned, opinions on mainstream books that everyone loves and tells the people straight about how the writing is shit.

Music: I don't just pull a Simon Cowell on the little pop sensations for no reason kids. I really think that they have no talent and that they're songs are just pandering to the lowest common denominator (aka the popularity critiques). So, naturally, I tend to gear my interests towards metal, folk metal, folk rock, and classical geared areas. You know why? Because the singers can actually sing, the lyrics aren't total shit, and the instrumentals actually sound good. I do not mention country in this category, because country has evolved for the worse. The mainstream picked it up and destroyed it. I listen to oldie country, but not that often. Rap? Do you think rap's gonna meet my musical standards? Moving on...

TV shows- again, if it's total shit then I'm not watching it. Take the office for example, I find the office tedious and humorless. The so called "dry humor" that people say I would like about it is horrible. Most of it isn't funny and the stuff that is funny is so bad that I can't help but laugh at the epic fail. Compared to the shows Psyche, NCIS, House, Murder She Wrote, and various anime that I watch, the office is a fail disaster. And Disney is even worse! I don't think that I'll even let any kids that I have in the future watch Disney channel or cartoon network because of how disgustingly bad it's gotten. I'll stick to the old stuff thank you very much (the stuff that I grew up with).

Well, that's about it for the rants. I'd say more, but by that time, I might as well write up a series of essays pertaining to each industry that I've mentioned. If you're wondering why I haven't mentioned the movie industry, it's because the movie industry actually, well, has a sense of ups and downs. The good stuff and the bad stuff. It just depends one what's coming out.

If I were to say my feelings about this, I would just be repeating what everyone says. (Who agrees with you, along with what you said as well.) So in short, I strongly agree.

I personally do not believe that you have high standards, you only have standards (And everybody has their own standards for what they may like and dislike).

Amen! It seems like kids these days don't even know what good literature is anymore. I mean, along came Harry Potter, and then Fantasy went downhill from there ( sorry HP fans, I don't hate HP, I kind of like it, because it's a silly, fun little kids story.) Oh, and don't even get me started on Twilight. and then for music, we have Justin Bieber, who was an accidental success, blah blah blah. The new TV shows are vulgar, rude, and stupid. In many regards, the movie industry is failing miserably. I mean, everybody is so uncreative, they're doing remakes of the old movies. (I did like the 2009 Star Trek reboot, and some of the re-dos, I just wish that they'd make something worthwhile) After Star Trek, Star Wars, Back to the Future, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings, there are no new movies or books to make (except the Hobbit, and those movies are gonna be flippin' awesome) So what do you get in the modern age? I'll tell you. You get a single mother from England who's a fan of Tolkien (she has the nerve to slam C.S. Lewis's works!) a mormon housewife who must've read Phantom of the Opera way too many times, and a bored movie director who has millions of dollars to spend. and what is the end result?
it's this: a children's story about underage wizards who make magic look like child's play, a sick, mary-sue 'love' story, and Pocahontas turned blue with cat ears and yellow eyes. (i.e., Harry Potter, Twilight, and Avatar)
and yet, these new, obviously take-off stories (HP is copying from Star Wars, X-Men, and Lord of the Rings) that make millions, no, a billion dollars worth of money, whilst the original creator's works are kicked to the curb and forgotten. what. the. friggin'. heck. but what burns me up is when I talk about LOTR, Narnia, and BTTF, all the teenage girls just look at me funny and they ask me what those things are. but if i say the words "Harry Potter" or "Twilight" everybody knows exactly what I'm talking about. Sheesh. at least they know Star Wars. My biggest irritation comes from trying to write a fantasy book for teens and kids. I've read way too many books that are stupid, repetitive, or weird, new-agey. I'll admit, Harry Potter was well-written, but my impression began and ended right then and there. (Twilight was so poorly written and easy to read, it looked like my diary) these new books are filled with shallow, poorly written characters that the author calls "heros" Heck no. Sorry fangirls and boys, I don't mean to be a hater.

Yeah, well, that just goes to show that people aren't as "tolerant" as they like to think themselves to be.
I'm sorry that you lost a friend because of that though...

Exactly! When people will stop bashing at everyone, who has a negative opinion about something? It is not right to consider as a hater everyone, who thinks different. Not every person with negative opinion is stating it rudely or cynical.Quite the oposite, some people are stating their opinion very civilised.

Paolini got faaar too much attention, and he writes badly.

Mainstream tastes have always been lacking.

You watch House and NCIS? <3 Me too! Those are the only TV shows I watch, really, since I prefer to read.
